To all the shortsighted dum-dums who think that exploding communication devices is some “cool” James Bond shit, I can’t wait to watch you people be forced to read a book or entertain yourself with the dull inflight magazine or a vapid stranger you’ll never see again - because we’re no longer permitted to take our handheld devices and laptops on planes anymore. And then we’ll all remember who we have to thank for that, won’t we? And this is why you can’t have nice things kids! 🙄

I know that some of my American friends and follow

I know that some of my American friends and followers think I’m in the habit of unfairly dunking on your country’s political class. Believe me, I take no pleasure in it. In fact, I wouldn’t even bother with any of your affairs if they weren’t so consequential to the rest of us. If you put aside your pride for long enough you’ll see that you have lost control of your government. Take your upcoming presidential elections for example. Once again, the American people are presented with a distinction without much of a difference. If you think these two empty suits of the corrupt two-party duopoly don’t serve the same donor class, billionaires, corporations and military industrial complex, then you haven’t been paying attention. Look at their records. The aesthetics and tone may appear different but they’re both Imperialist lackeys of the neoliberal capitalist order. So no matter which one of these sock puppets eventually gets into the Oval office, you’re going to get the same business-as-usual politics that’s screwing over the American working class and dragging the rest of the world, kicking and screaming, towards a nuclear Armageddon. A vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil. It’s like asking, “Which flavour of killing machine would you prefer?” Please open your eyes and up your political literacy. All our lives depend on it.

Have I ramped up and sharpened the tone and tenor of my social and geopolitical commentary on my Insta of late? You bet. Have my takes been a tad spicy? Oh hell yes. And I’m just getting warmed up. To those well-meaning folks who’ve expressed ‘concern’, bless your hearts and thank you. But rest assured I’m not in a dark place. The world is. And as a ‘see something, say something’ critical thinker, I’m simply responding to the injustices and horrors I see all about me. I use my socials not to self-promote, but to speak my conscience. Frankly, it’s never been more important and consequential to be doing so in this moment. To paraphrase a frequently misattributed, but immutable truth : the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing. I don’t stand in solidarity with an oppressed or brutalised people because I like them or because they’re perfect. I do so because it’s the right thing to do. This may be mere ‘keyboard activism’, but activism it still most certainly is. Deal.

We might as well have some fun on our way to oblivion, when our Skynet masters take over. Bottoms up! Is there any hope for humankind do you think?

There are few things I loathe more than having my intelligence insulted, especially to my face. In fact, such offences were enough to make my blood boil in the past. But lately, the class and calibre of people who’ve been attempting to gaslight the world have been so laughably childlike, ham-fisted and dumb as dog shit in their analyses of the front page issues of the day that I’ve found myself laughing, sometimes literally, in their faces. “For an intrinsically smart person, how are you this functionally stupid and incompetent?” I’d marvel. Really, I don’t mean to sound bitchy or condescending, but these are deeply unserious, unsophisticated people with a peasant-like mentality. Normally I might have felt sorry for them - but in today’s zeitgeist their blind fealty to their mediocre overlords - and their ignorant and propagandized views are actually dangerous. Alas, if only they had the good sense to shut the F up and remain blissfully ensconced in their own little bubble of self-delusion, then I might have been able to give them a free pass. But oh no. Instead they’re running over with hubris, chauvinism and bellicosity, viciously lashing out at activists and people of conscience who are sounding the alarm and urgently advocating for a radical course correction as we careen wildly towards a cliff’s edge. So I’m done being gracious with war-mongers, genocide apologists, Imperialist lackeys and ‘liberal’ hypocrites who talk a big talk but stand for nothing at the end of the day. I’ve reached the end of my patience and compassionate condescension with these people. I’m ramping up my online commentary. In fact, I intend to go full bore. So if you’re triggered or challenged by forthright, untrammelled talk now’s the time to unfollow me. And take your stupid with you please. I don’t respect you enough to spar with you.

Exactly 17 years ago today I popped the question t

Exactly 17 years ago today I popped the question to this beautiful soul (and he said yes). Now this impromptu portrait, captured on a boat on the Hartbeespoort Dam, predates my proposal but I will always remember the day I took it for its significance. We were enjoying a leisurely bird-watching cruise and as I was aiming my camera about in the hope of snapping some of our feathered friends, Chris’ defocused face appeared in my viewfinder. He had been gazing at me the entire time. The most tender look on his face. Such a softness and longing in his eyes. I pulled focus to quickly get the shot before he wisened up to it. My man was notoriously camera-shy back then - and I knew he would snap out of that dreamy, entranced expression and I would forever lose the moment if he became self-conscious.
Later, when I zoomed in on the image on a bigger screen it confirmed the goosebumps sensation I had felt as I looked through the lens and took the shot. I thought, “This is the expression of a man deeply and unequivocally in love with the person he’s beholding.” This image always reminds me of one of my all-time favourite songs…

He’s about to be replaced by a vain orange clown who can’t string a coherent sentence together. Meanwhile their planet is slowly dying. Yet they continue to vote for the same leaders who deliberately ignore and act counter to their political will and interests. It’s a cult of suicidal self-sabotage they call “democracy”. LOL!

Yup, it’s as we thought! There’s no sign of intelligent life here. Let’s try another planet.
