The closing of a book is not an end, but a breath. The closing of a book is not an end, but a breath. We hold the weight of its pages, the ghosts of its characters, the echo of its final words and - for an often dizzying spell in my personal experience - we are suspended in the quiet aftermath. This is the sacred space between chapters…

To turn the page is an act of faith. It is to believe that the story continues, that the ink of our lives has not run dry. The new chapter is a blank expanse, a territory of pure potential. It is terrifying in its freedom to be sure. Always a landscape with no pre-written path. But we are the cartographers now. The only tools we possess are choice, intuition and the compass of our own becoming.

And then, there is the horizon. It has always been there, a line of promise drawn across the edge of our known world. We spend our lives walking toward it, only to find it receding. That beautiful mirage of perpetual invitation. Each new chapter is a step toward that line. We mistake it for a destination, but it is a direction. It is the call of the unseen, the whisper that there is always more. As is often attributed to 13th-century Persian Sufi mystic, theologian and poet, Rumi, “that which you are seeking is seeking you”. I’ve always intuited this, long before I came across it. Even as I write this I feel a tug in my heart. You know the one? It precedes the moment you involuntarily burst into tears of pure joy. Because you feel held. Loved. Seen. And cherished.

Yet the old chapter, with its joys and its sorrows, is not discarded. It is the ground from which we now stand to view this wider prospect. Its lessons are the lens through which we perceive the new light. The horizon is not a place we arrive at, but a way we learn to see. And the new chapter is not a promise of a perfect story, but the courage to write one. One uncertain, beautiful word at a time, under the vast and welcoming sky of the possible.
